Location Owners Comment on
Their Experience During Production of the Film "Divine Secrets
of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood"
I've heard all the horror stories about
film crews visiting your property. While the vast majority of the
time things go well, I've also heard the experience variously described as "the
circus coming to town" or "a heard of buffalo's roaring through
the house." To us, those rare occasions sounded like an experience you wouldn't wish on your
own worst enemies. However, it is difficult to understate what
a positive experience we have had with the cast and crew of Divine
Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. From the groundskeepers and
housekeeping personnel to the executive producers, we have nothing but
praise for the courtesy, professionalism, and friendliness of the people
who are bringing the film adaptation of Rebecca Well's national
bestseller to the big screen in 2002. Since this location is a historic property
listed on the national register and is also protected by special architectural
easements, it was a major decision to let the company work its
magic on Buckner Hill House. Thanks to Mike Hewett of Locations
Plus in Wilmington, North Carolina, the cast and crew were made aware
of the special sensitivity they would need to show in order to help us
further the mission of preserving and restoring the house while at
the same time meeting the goals of the production company.
There is one question we have been asked
over and over (and over): "Would you do it again?" [let a film
company use your home]. Unequivocally, "YES." It is
often the case that the tone for any endeavor is set by those at the top.
For their assistance in making this a real joy, our special thanks also go
to the
producers, director, assistant director,. production designer, art
designer, filmographer, grips, and construction crew. (Whew! I
know we left someone out...for a complete list look at the credits when
the film is released!) We eagerly await the final product of
their
hard work! |
